The Foundation
This project began with a feeling that something was missing.
When we first met the homeowner, she believed the house needed accessories. She spoke of blue accents, yet in person the home revealed something else entirely: beige upon beige, with little pattern, little art, and very little of her reflected in the rooms.
What became immediately clear was that the home lacked not finishing touches, but identity. There was an energy to the homeowner—lively, elegant, free-spirited—that the interiors simply did not hold. When a more French point of view was suggested, she immediately recognized herself in it. That became the beginning: introducing artwork, area rugs, and the layers of personality the home had been waiting for.
Architectural Language
The work centered on bringing the home into better proportion with the way the family lived there.
For busy parents with demanding careers, children, and a full life of gathering with friends and extended family, the house needed greater definition and flow. The entrance had blurred into the living space and lacked a clear sense of arrival. It needed an anchor—something that could establish rhythm, offer presence, and guide the experience of the home more naturally.
A beautiful table paired with a major original work of art created that moment. From there, the eye could move across the room toward the view of Lake Minnetonka, now more deliberately framed within the larger composition. The home began to read as a connected experience rather than a series of disconnected spaces.
Craft & Composition
Color became essential to the transformation.
Pops of color were introduced with intention, alongside pattern, artwork, area rugs, and furnishings scaled more thoughtfully to the rooms. Drapery, finishes, and furniture were shaped and sized to create better balance and visual rhythm from one space to the next.
These decisions were not about decoration alone. They were about giving the home a point of view—one that felt more personal, more spirited, and more reflective of the homeowner herself.
The result was a layered interior with creative flair, warmth, and a livelier sense of composition throughout.
The Experience
This is now a home that feels equal to the people living in it.
It supports family life, but it also knows how to welcome. It offers an immediate sense of arrival, a stronger relationship between entry and living space, and a clearer visual path toward the lake—the home’s most valuable and memorable feature. A tête-à-tête bench was placed so someone could sit and look out toward the water, allowing the landscape to become part of the daily experience.
What once felt muted now feels vibrant, relaxed, and distinctly personal. The house no longer resists the energy of its owner. It reflects it.
Results
The success of this project lies in how fully the home now feels inhabited by personality.
What began as an interior that felt beige, flat, and disconnected was transformed into a lively lake home with greater rhythm, stronger focal points, and a more natural sense of hospitality. The rooms feel scaled, anchored, and expressive without losing ease.
Most importantly, the homeowners now feel proud to host and entertain in a home that reflects their taste, their energy, and the life they want to live there. Designed to feel just as right in ten or twenty years as it does today.
