The Foundation
We first met this young professional couple when they purchased an emerald green taffeta bench for their bedroom. That initial selection became the beginning of something more lasting: a long-term client relationship that, over time, became a friendship.
From the start, there was a clear sense of the homeowner’s point of view. She already had an extensive art collection, and it revealed an instinct for aesthetic things—an ease with attitude, color, and pattern that gave the home its direction. That clarity made it easy for Julian Design to understand what resonated and where the interiors could go.
The green taffeta bench, placed in the primary suite, became an early point of inspiration. It captured something essential about the home’s spirit: expressive, personal, and confident.
Architectural Language
This project was never about imposing a singular look. It was about shaping spaces that felt aligned with the lives unfolding inside them.
Over several years, Julian Design remained in step with the family as their needs changed. As children and a dog were added to the household, the home was continually furnished and refined in ways that supported a fuller and more layered daily life. The bedroom, entry, stairwell, and living spaces each became part of that larger story.
What united the work was not rigidity, but recognition—a shared visual language and an understanding of what should remain true as the home evolved.
Craft & Composition
The interiors were guided as much by the homeowner’s existing collection as by any new addition. Art, rugs, color, and pattern established a mood that felt already in motion, allowing each selection to build on what was there rather than compete with it.
There was also an immediate sense of kinship in taste. We seemed to have similar styles, and she even had the same bed that appeared in the Fox Street house. That familiarity created ease and momentum, allowing decisions to feel intuitive from the beginning.
Throughout the home, the composition was shaped by pieces with personality—items chosen not simply to furnish rooms, but to reflect the people living in them. The result was a home with warmth, attitude, and a sense of continuity across the years.
The Experience

Julian Design stayed with this family through multiple stages of life, helping their home adjust without losing its identity. As their household grew, the interiors continued to support both beauty and use. Nothing felt static. The home was allowed to keep pace with the reality of family life while remaining deeply personal.
Eventually, they outgrew the house. But they loved their home, their neighborhood, and their school, so they moved only a few blocks away. Even then, the story did not begin again from scratch. The art and rugs adapted easily into the next home, carrying forward the emotional and aesthetic continuity that had always defined the relationship.
