About Excelsior
Excelsior was founded in 1853 by colonists from New York and is one of the oldest settlements on Lake Minnetonka. It was once the home of “Excelsior Amusement Park,” which operated for over 50 years and was a primary inspiration for the song “Mr. Kite” by the Beatles. Today, the town is a premier destination for antique shopping and public docks.
To get to the airport from Excelsior, take MN-7 East to I-494 South toward MSP Airport; the drive is approximately 25–30 minutes.
